Today is National Safe Motherhood Day. This year’s theme focuses on ensuring equal access to health protection for all mothers, leaving no one behind. Keeping this objective in mind, Burdwan Sadar Pyara Nutrition Welfare Society organized various programs across different parts of Burdwan city to promote the health and well-being of both human mothers and “Mother Earth.” Under the initiative of the society, weeds and harmful Parthenium plants growing in the garden areas adjacent to the kitchens of several schools—Kanchannagar D.N. Das High School, Lakurdi Vidyamandir, Sadhumati Girls’ School, and Vidyarthi Bhavan Girls’ High School—were removed. This effort aimed to reduce soil pollution and enhance soil fertility. The school authorities mentioned that due to ongoing examinations, Green Volunteers could not contribute their time, and continuous rainfall had led to the rapid growth of weeds. Additionally, the organization conducted an awareness session for pregnant women and women aged 18–44 from Ranibagan and Korapara. The discussion covered topics such as antenatal care, safe delivery practices, and postnatal awareness. The session was addressed by Dr. Subrata Byapari, a specialist from IQ City Hospital, Durgapur, and health expert Mr. Bipul Dutta.
